TORRANCE CITY COUNCIL WEIGHING TRIATHLON
At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Torrance City Council members are scheduled to hear a presentation from Orange-based Pacific Sports on a proposed triathlon that would run along Torrance Beach on Sept. 21. No formal action will be taken by council members, but the event’s route will be introduced.
The swimming and running portions would take place on Torrance Beach near Miramar Park, and spectators and event staging would be concentrated in the park’s parking lot, Pacific Sports President and CEO Jack Caress said.
The biking portion would largely run down Calle de Arboles and Paseo de las Tortugas, though it would also travel along major roadways like Palos Verdes Boulevard and Calle Miramar for short distances. Roads would be shut down from 7 a.m. to around 10:15 a.m.
Caress said if the event is approved, Pacific Sports will hold additional community meetings in the months leading up to the event.
